Our History

Sans Souci Restaurant has been proudly family-owned since its founding in 1993 by Walter Evilia. Former Mayor of Meriden from 1977 to 1981, Walter was a veteran of the food business. He previously founded Snack Time Vending as a young man, which he sold in the mid-80s. He then became co-owner of The Cabin Restaurant in Meriden before retiring in the early 1990s. Walter soon realized retirement wasn’t for him.

When a new restaurant space became available on the Berlin Turnpike, he jumped at the chance to start a family-friendly, American restaurant for the citizens of Meriden. Today, the restaurant is owned by Walter’s daughter, Marna Evilia, whose own children can be seen working alongside her at Sans Souci.

Sans-Souci is a little gem. Food, Service, and Ambiance are wonderful. Get a salad with your meal and the French onion is delish. They have the best Prime Rib! Enjoyed the large Shrimp Cocktail, Lobster Roll and Baked Stuffed Shrimp. Paired nicely with a glass of Cab and Expresso Martini.

Cozy, delicious lunch today w my great friend! She had clam strips. I had whole belly clams. We each ordered a side salad that was fresh, crunchy and so healthy. Clams tasted crunchy, perfectly seasoned and so tender too! Bread pudding dessert was phenomenal! Thank You 😊 Sincerely to Mark the Chef for His Expertise in serving such Fine Food!!
